Done as part of a series of works executed during a residency at De Overslag, in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. I saved a soiled coffee doily from a morning coffee meeting, and used it to make the 'lace collar' for my thumb. Later it made me think of Frans Hals's 'Marriage Portrait of Isaac Massa and Beatrix Van Der Laen (1622) when I saw it in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
